Delhi: Former cricketer Praveen Gupta, renowned for his outstanding domestic and national-level cricketing achievements, has been appointed as the Chief Selector for Delhi Junior Cricket. Gupta will now oversee the selection of Delhi’s Under-19, Under-16, and Under-14 teams, a role considered crucial for shaping the future of the city’s cricketing talent.
Cricket experts believe Gupta’s vision and experience will significantly benefit Delhi’s young players in the coming years. Having represented Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket for several years, Gupta made a mark in the Ranji Trophy with his bowling prowess and delivered numerous memorable performances in first-class cricket. He also gained valuable international exposure representing India’s Under-19 team.
Even after retiring from active play, Gupta continued to contribute to Indian cricket. He served as Chairman of the Junior and Senior Selection Committees at the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), where under his guidance many young players progressed to the national stage. His approach emphasizes cricketing acumen, discipline, fitness, and mental resilience.

Under Praveen Gupta’s leadership:
- UP Under-19 team won the Cooch Behar Trophy (2018-19) and the Vinoo Mankad Trophy (2019-20).
- Under-16 team reached the semi-finals of the Vijay Merchant Trophy for two consecutive years.
- Under-14 team showcased an impressive performance in the Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy (2018-19).
