Uttar Pradesh to Become India’s Deep Tech Capital

LUCKNOW – In a major push to establish Uttar Pradesh as a leader in deep technology, the state government, in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, is aiming to transform the state into India’s Deep Tech Capital. The initiative, championed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is based on a tripartite strategy focusing on talent, technology, and startups. The Chief Minister believes that Uttar Pradesh will play a pivotal role in making India a global technological superpower in the coming years.

The state government’s vision is to not only make Uttar Pradesh a leader in the startup ecosystem but also to establish it as an engine of innovation for the entire country. The commitment of the Yogi government, combined with the expertise of IIT Kanpur and the strength of its alumni network, is expected to usher in a new era of technological progress for both the state and the nation.

CM Yogi’s Ambitious Initiative

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi announced at an event at IIT Kanpur that India’s first Deep Tech Bharat 2025 will be held in Uttar Pradesh. He called for a major summit where scientists, researchers, and startups from across the country can collaborate to develop a concrete roadmap. He emphasized that IIT Kanpur, which already holds a position of national leadership in deep tech innovation, should be the central hub for this initiative. The Chief Minister also mentioned that land has already been allocated in Gautam Buddha Nagar for a deep tech hub, which could be realized in partnership with premier institutions like DRDO and ISRO.

Working on Cutting-Edge Scientific Research

IIT Kanpur is spearheading this ambitious mission. The institute is already incubating hundreds of startups and is working on new discoveries related to intensive scientific research. A recent survey revealed that 75% of IIT Kanpur’s 410 alumni are ready to mentor startups and students. Around 63% are willing to offer industry insights and consultation, while 46% will promote partnerships and collaborations. Furthermore, 21% of alumni are prepared to bring industries to the state, and 15% are ready to provide financial investments. This strong alumni support is expected to make an unprecedented contribution to the deep tech vision.

UP to be India’s Innovation Engine

In terms of the startup ecosystem, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly progressing towards becoming a deep tech startup capital. The state has set a target of incubating more than 250 deep tech startups with a total valuation of over Rs 2.5 lakh crore. It is estimated that these startups will create more than 10,000 direct jobs, providing employment to local youth and helping the state become self-reliant. The Yogi government’s vision aims to transform Uttar Pradesh from a consumer-driven state to an innovation-driven one, where R&D projects are not limited to laboratories but are transformed into marketable products. This process is expected to make Uttar Pradesh India’s innovation engine in the near future.
