Lucknow— A shocking case of dowry-related murder has emerged from the Chinhat area of Lucknow, where a 24-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws. Police have arrested the woman’s husband along with two family members in connection with the case.
The Incident
The victim, identified as Ruby Devi, died under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws’ house in Kanchanpur Matiyari village. Her father, Amarnath, filed a complaint at Chinhat Police Station, alleging that his daughter was being continuously harassed for dowry since her marriage. He claimed that Ruby was killed when the family failed to meet the dowry demands.
Police Action
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under sections 80(2) and 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The arrested include:
- Ajay Kumar Rawat (husband)
- Ashok Kumar (father-in-law)
- Raj Kumari (mother-in-law)
- Two other relatives have also been named in the FIR and are currently absconding.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officials visited the crime scene, and a forensic team collected evidence for further examination. Authorities have assured that the investigation is being carried out on priority and that efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused.
