Lucknow – Montra Electric, the electric vehicle unit of the 125-year-old Murugappa Group, on Tuesday unveiled the ‘Montra Electric Chowk’ near Pakka Pul Chauraha, King George Medical University. This unique civic landmark features a bus shelter inspired by the company’s electric three-wheeler ‘Super Auto’ theme, serving not only as a modern passenger waiting area but also as a symbol of growing awareness for eco-friendly transportation in Lucknow. Roy Kurian, CEO of Montra Electric’s Last Mile Mobility (LMM) business, was present at the inauguration.
Speaking on the occasion, Roy Kurian stated, “At Montra Electric, we view mobility not just as a means to travel from one place to another, but as a connection to opportunity, access, and dignity. Montra Electric Chowk is a small but significant effort in this direction, moving towards public spaces that embody these values. Initiatives like ‘Women in Charge’ and our collaborative work with Lucknow’s auto drivers are geared towards making this transformation more inclusive – a change that resonates with the lives of those who truly drive our cities.”
Community Engagement Initiatives Launched
Coinciding with the inauguration, two special community initiatives were launched at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Center, further solidifying Montra Electric’s commitment to inclusive and participatory urban transport.

‘Women in Charge’: Empowering Women to Drive Electric Autos
This initiative aims to train and empower underprivileged women to drive electric autos. The 30-40 day training program includes theoretical classes, practical driving lessons, EV maintenance knowledge, and support for obtaining a driving license. The program will initially launch in Kanpur and subsequently expand to other cities in Uttar Pradesh.

Free Eye Check-up Camp for Lucknow Auto Drivers
Addressing the ocular health needs of transport workers, Montra Electric organized a free eye check-up camp for auto drivers in Lucknow. The camp offered general eye examinations, health advice, and referrals for further treatment if needed. This initiative underscores the crucial link between driver health and road safety.

Montra Electric Chowk is not merely a new location but a tangible step towards clean, smart, and inclusive transportation in Lucknow’s urban landscape. It exemplifies how public infrastructure can be reimagined to not only meet transportation needs but also build deeper connections with the associated community. The Super Auto-themed shelter symbolizes this transformation – a confluence where tradition and technology converge to move Lucknow towards becoming a cleaner, empowered, and better-connected city.
Montra Electric’s three-wheeler Super Auto is specifically designed to offer drivers enhanced comfort, safety, and increased earning potential. It boasts modern features like fast charging, long range, and smart connectivity, making it an ideal choice for the evolving needs of Indian cities. In Lucknow, two exclusive showrooms are available for Super Auto sales and service – one in Transport Nagar (Axis Motors) and another in Gandhi Nagar (Sun Motors) – ensuring easy sales, service, and reliable support for individual drivers and fleet operators.
