Dubai — The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially appointed Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant moment in the global cricket body’s leadership. Gupta, a veteran in the sports media and entertainment industry, will assume his new role from July 7, becoming the seventh CEO in ICC’s history.
Gupta, currently CEO – Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar, brings over two decades of expertise in sports strategy, media operations, and fan engagement. Known for shaping the modern sports broadcast ecosystem in India, he has played a pivotal role in popularizing marquee cricket properties like the ICC tournaments and the Indian Premier League (IPL), as well as establishing other domestic and global sporting franchises.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed confidence in the appointment, stating,
“Sanjog’s deep understanding of the sports and media landscape, combined with his focus on the cricket fan’s experience and passion for innovation, will be invaluable as we aim to take cricket beyond traditional boundaries — including Olympic expansion and deeper engagement in core and emerging markets.”
The appointment follows a global recruitment campaign initiated in March 2025, which drew over 2,500 applications from 25 countries. After a rigorous shortlisting and interview process led by the ICC’s Nominations Committee, Gupta was unanimously recommended and subsequently ratified by the ICC Board.
In his first remarks as CEO-designate, Sanjog Gupta said:

“It’s a great honour to lead the ICC at a time when cricket is growing rapidly and inspiring nearly two billion fans worldwide. With opportunities such as the 2028 Olympics and increasing momentum in women’s cricket, there is tremendous scope to expand the game’s global impact. I look forward to working closely with Member Boards and stakeholders to further elevate cricket’s stature and fan experience.”
Gupta’s career journey has seen him evolve from a journalist to one of the most influential figures in sports media. After joining Star India in 2010, he led several key strategic roles before becoming Head of Sports at Disney Star in 2020. He was later appointed CEO of JioStar Sports in 2024 following the merger of Viacom18 and Disney Star.
Recognized for his vision and execution, Gupta has been instrumental in delivering multi-language, digital-first, and inclusive sports coverage, helping shape India’s sports media as a global benchmark.
With Gupta at the helm, the ICC looks forward to entering a new era of growth, innovation, and global expansion, especially in digital engagement, fan experiences, and inclusion of cricket in multi-sport events like the Olympics.
