Gorakhpur: In a historic moment for Purvanchal, the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Gorakhpur was held with great pride and enthusiasm. The event was graced by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, who commended the institute’s growing role in delivering quality healthcare and advancing medical education in eastern India.
Also present at the landmark event were Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh; Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare; and Ravi Kishan, MP from Gorakhpur.
President Murmu: AIIMS Gorakhpur – A Beacon of Excellence
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu remarked, “AIIMS institutions have become symbols of excellence, innovation, and service across India, and AIIMS Gorakhpur is carrying forward this proud tradition.” She described the institute as a hub of hope and healing for the people of Purvanchal and neighboring regions of Bihar and Nepal.

She further stated, “AIIMS has set new benchmarks in surgery, diagnostics, and the integration of allopathic and traditional medicine practices. It also plays a key role in promoting medical tourism through its world-class, affordable services.”
The President emphasized the crucial role doctors play in nation-building, saying, “They are not only healers but also architects of a healthy and prosperous society.” She encouraged graduates to adopt new technologies such as telemedicine, AI diagnostics, and robotic surgery to elevate the standard of care.

Governor Anandiben Patel: A Call for Empathetic Service
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel reflected on the emotional foundation of the institute, reminding students that the land was once the livelihood of farmers who sacrificed for the nation’s greater good. She urged graduates to uphold values of empathy, honesty, and innovation as they serve the people.
CM Yogi Adityanath: A Milestone for Purvanchal
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the convocation as a “historic moment for Purvanchal.” He highlighted the region’s transformation, noting, “Where once diseases like Japanese Encephalitis prevailed, we now have AIIMS and other major medical institutions across districts like Jaunpur and Siddharthnagar.”

MoS Anupriya Patel: Healthcare Revolution Underway
Union MoS Health Anupriya Patel emphasized the national importance of AIIMS Gorakhpur, celebrating its emergence within just six years. She shared that the number of AIIMS institutions across India has grown from 7 to 23 since 2014, reflecting the government’s commitment to healthcare expansion.
Quoting the National Health Policy, she said, “Healthcare now means more than curing illnesses—it encompasses preventive, promotive, curative, palliative, and rehabilitative care.”
Academic Achievements Honoured
During the ceremony, gold medals were awarded to eight outstanding students, including six MBBS graduates, one MSc Nursing, and one MSc Medical student. In total, 61 students received degrees from the first graduating batch: 48 MBBS, 8 MSc Medical, and 5 MSc Nursing students.
The first official convocation souvenir of AIIMS Gorakhpur was unveiled by Governor Anandiben Patel and the first copy was presented to the President of India.
A New Chapter Begins
This inaugural convocation marks a milestone for AIIMS Gorakhpur, solidifying its stature as a premier healthcare and education institute. The ceremony concluded with heartfelt applause for the students, faculty, and staff who have contributed to the institute’s journey toward becoming a national leader in medical service and innovation.
