Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Joins International Yoga Day 2025 Celebrations at AJNIFM, Faridabad

Faridabad : Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs,  Nirmala Sitharaman, actively participated in the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations today at the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management (AJNIFM) in Faridabad, Delhi-NCR.

This year’s celebrations are being held under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, reflecting the deep interconnectedness between individual well-being and planetary health. The theme draws inspiration from the Indian philosophy of “Sarve Santu Niramaya”May all be free from disease.

The nationwide celebrations were led by Prime Minister  Narendra Modi from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where he joined nearly five lakh participants in a beachfront yoga session. The Prime Minister emphasized yoga’s role in promoting global harmony and wellness, stating that yoga is not just an exercise but a powerful tool for unity and inner peace.

In Faridabad, the celebrations at AJNIFM began with a live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address from Visakhapatnam, followed by a guided yoga session conducted by instructors from the Morarji Desai Yoga Institute. Over 400 participants, including senior officials, staff, and yoga enthusiasts, performed the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) with great enthusiasm and discipline for over 45 minutes.

Prominent attendees included:

  • Finance Secretary and Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs

  • Secretaries of all Departments of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs

  • Officer on Special Duty and Secretary Designate, DEA

  • Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)

  • Senior officials and staff members from the Finance Ministry

The celebration at AJNIFM highlighted the growing importance of yoga as a part of India’s administrative culture and the government’s commitment to integrating wellness into public life.

Since its inception in 2015, after a resolution proposed by India was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, International Day of Yoga has grown into a global health movement, with celebrations held each year across the world. Prime Minister Modi has led the event from diverse locations including New York, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Mysuru, and Srinagar.

This year also witnessed mass participation across 3.5 lakh locations in India, alongside initiatives like “Yoga with Family” and youth-oriented programs such as “Yoga Unplugged” through digital platforms like MyGov and MyBharat.

The event at AJNIFM served as a reminder of yoga’s role in building a healthier, more resilient nation, while also honoring the legacy of Arun Jaitley, a champion of progressive and inclusive public policy.
