Rampur’s Aril River Set for Revival: District Administration Begins Restoration Efforts

Rampur— In a significant step toward environmental and agricultural rejuvenation, the revival of the Aril River in the Shahabad tehsil of Rampur district is underway. The river, which was nearing extinction due to neglect and encroachments, is now part of a focused rejuvenation campaign led by District Magistrate Joginder Singh.

Accompanied by Shahabad SDM and other officials, the DM visited the river site to inspect the progress of restoration work carried out over the last two months by the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Shahabad. During the visit, officials were directed to carry out large-scale afforestation on both sides of the river ahead of the monsoon season to protect the riverbank and enhance green cover.

75% Desilting Completed, Recharge Shafts Underway

District officials confirmed that 75% of the riverbed desilting has been completed, helping restore the original flow channel. Additionally, recharge shafts are being constructed at 200-meter intervals to enhance groundwater recharge and ensure sustainability.

DM Singh emphasized the importance of preventing further encroachments along the riverbanks and ensuring the river’s natural course remains undisturbed. “The successful revival of Aril River will greatly benefit local farmers by providing a reliable source of water for irrigation,” he said.

A Boon for Farmers and the Environment

The initiative is expected to have a transformational impact on local agriculture. With the river regaining its flow, farmers who once struggled with water scarcity will now have easier access to irrigation. The river’s restoration also serves as a model for sustainable water management and ecological conservation in the district.

What was once a fading stream is now seeing signs of life again — a development welcomed by environmentalists and agriculturists alike. The revival of the Aril River is poised to become a success story in water resource management for Rampur district.
