Man Killed Over Illicit Affair; Woman and Her Husband Arrested: Lucknow Police

Lucknow: The mystery surrounding the suspicious death of a young man in Lucknow’s Sarojininagar area has finally been solved by the police. Authorities have arrested a woman and her husband, charging them with the man’s murder, which allegedly stemmed from an illicit relationship. Police have also recovered the pillow used in the killing, confirming that the victim was smothered to death.

What Happened?

The case dates back to May 20, when Arpit Yadav, a resident of Tapovan Nagar in Sarojininagar, was found unconscious at the home of his neighbor, Rajkumar alias Chhotu Maurya. His family rushed him to Lokbandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident was reported to the police by the victim’s brother, Mulayam Singh Yadav, leading to the registration of a murder case under FIR No. 183/2025, Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), at Sarojininagar Police Station.

Motive Behind the Murder

Police investigations revealed that Arpit Yadav was involved in an illicit relationship with his neighbor, Suman Maurya. Her husband, Rajkumar, had become aware of the affair, which had caused frequent quarrels between the couple. Fearing social disgrace if the matter became public, the couple allegedly conspired to eliminate Arpit.

According to the police, during interrogation, both accused confessed to the crime. On May 20, they reportedly laced Arpit’s water with sleeping pills. Once he fell unconscious, they suffocated him using a pillow.

Arrests and Evidence

On Sunday morning around 9:10 AM, Sarojininagar police apprehended the couple near Naderganj Tiraha. Upon Suman’s confession, police recovered the murder weapon—the pillow used to suffocate Arpit.

Accused Identified

  • Suman Maurya (34), wife of Rajkumar Maurya, resident of Babu Ji Ka Purwa, Gauriganj Police Station, Amethi District.

  • Rajkumar alias Chhotu Maurya, son of Rampher Maurya, originally from Amethi, currently residing in Tapovan Nagar, Sarojininagar, Lucknow. He worked as an e-rickshaw driver.
