Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has disclosed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will soon unveil the names of candidates for the five remaining Lok Sabha seats in the state, ahead of the upcoming general elections.
“In the next five days, the candidates for the remaining five Lok Sabha tickets will be announced by the Aam Aadmi Party,” stated the Chief Minister.
Discussing the strategy for the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency, Mann revealed that a crucial meeting was conducted with MLAs and party office bearers in Bathinda. “During the meeting, our candidate Sardar Gurmeet Singh Khuddiyan was also present, and everyone extended their support to win this seat,” he shared on X. He hailed, “Long live the revolution.”
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Sibin C, Punjab’s chief electoral officer (CEO), informed that with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) coming into effect post the notification of Lok Sabha election dates, all officers and personnel of the police department, ranging from the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) to constable, will be on deputation of the Election Commission (EC).
This decision has been made due to their direct or indirect involvement in managing and conducting elections, as per the provisions of Section 28A of the Representation of People Act, 1951. The top poll officer notified that the gazette notification has already been issued by the state government in this regard.
He further clarified that the order of deputation will apply to all ranks, from the DGP to the constable, and will remain in force until the conclusion of the election process.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) had announced the dates for the Lok Sabha elections at a press conference in the national capital. In addition, the CEO convened a meeting with representatives from major political parties in the state to discuss crucial aspects of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
