Vrindavan — The spirit of Holi has already taken over the holy town of Vrindavan in Mathura district as the festival of colors commenced today at the revered Banke Bihari Temple. Marking the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami, devotees gathered in large numbers to witness and participate in the exuberant celebrations, setting the stage for 40 days of vibrant festivities across the Braj region.
As per tradition, Holi in Braj begins on Vasant Panchami, symbolizing the arrival of the spring season. The temple premises were adorned with colorful decorations as priests and devotees celebrated with clouds of abir and gulal filling the air. The rituals began with the ceremonial adornment of Lord Banke Bihari, followed by aarti, after which the temple priests offered flowers to the deity, formally inaugurating the Holi festivities.
Devotees from different parts of the country thronged the temple, playing with colored powders and exchanging festive greetings. The temple courtyard echoed with devotional songs and chants, enhancing the spiritual ambiance.
Significance of Braj Holi
Braj Holi holds a unique cultural and religious significance. Every year, the festival kicks off on Vasant Panchami with the installation of ceremonial sticks in temples, symbolizing the commencement of Holi celebrations. This is followed by a series of grand events, including the famous Laddoo Holi, Lathmar Holi, Phoolon Ki Holi (Flower Holi), Holika Dahan, and finally culminating in the traditional Rangwali Holi.
In several regions, the Holi pole or ‘Danda’ is installed on Magh Purnima or a day before Holika Dahan. The festivities are not just about colors but also reflect the rich cultural heritage and devotional fervor of the Braj region.
With around 22 spectacular events lined up over the next 40 days, Vrindavan and the entire Braj area are set to become a vibrant canvas of colors, devotion, and joy, showcasing the timeless charm of Holi.
