45th Death Anniversary of Literacy Pioneer Weldy Fisher Commemorated at Saksharataniketan

Lucknow: A solemn prayer meeting marked the 45th death anniversary of literacy advocate Dr. Welthy H Fisher at Saksharataniketan, Kanpur Road, Lucknow. A two-minute silence was observed to honor the memory of the “Literacy Mother.” The event, held at Kabir Theater within Saksharataniketan, featured various programs presented by students of Weldy Fisher Children’s Academy.

The commemoration included speeches highlighting Weldy Fisher’s life and contributions to the field of literacy.  Ayush Verma, a Class-7 student, delivered an eloquent speech in Hindi, while  Ummeh Beeba, a Class-9 student, spoke in English. Their addresses detailed Weldy Fisher’s outstanding works and enduring legacy in promoting literacy.

The event was graced by  Sandhya Tiwari, I.A.S. (Senior) and Director of the India Literature Board, who addressed the audience, inspiring the students and attendees with her thoughtful words. She emphasized Weldy Fisher’s impact on literacy and education.

Other dignitaries present included  Praveen Tandon, Advisor to the India Literature Board;  Anup Kumar Shrivastava, Special Executive Officer; and  Sudha Karman Singh, Administrative Officer. The event saw active participation from the staff of Saksharataniketan, along with teachers, students, and associate employees of Weldy Fisher Children’s Academy.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Principal of Welthy Fisher Children’s Academy, expressing gratitude to all the attendees and participants for making the event a meaningful tribute to Weldy Fisher’s legacy.
