Lucknow: In a significant breakthrough, Thakurganj police arrested Shamshad Ahmed, an accused involved in a sophisticated fraud scheme of buying, adulterating, and reselling stolen jewellery. Ahmed allegedly melted down the stolen items, adulterated the gold, and sold it to unsuspecting customers by falsely claiming it to be 22-carat.
The arrest, made under the leadership of SHO Thakurganj Shrikant Rai and Gaughat outpost in-charge Abhishek Kumar Pandey, led to the recovery of gold and silver jewellery valued at approximately ₹12 lakh, along with ₹21,700 in cash.
Ahmed has been sent behind bars, and police investigations continue to determine if further accomplices were involved. This arrest underscores the police’s vigilance in combating fraud and protecting consumers from deceptive practices in the jewellery market.
