Upping scrutiny, surprise inspections to be the new norm in Anganwadi centres

Lucknow: A review meeting of the Women and Child Development Department was held  at the Raj Bhavan under the chairmanship of Governor Anandiben Patel. During the meeting, the updated status of the proceedings regarding new approval of Anganwadi centers in Ayodhya district, all the schemes of the Women and Child Development Department funded by the Government of India were reviewed, in which the funds received from various items and their use for the rejuvenation of Anganwadi centers were discussed in detail.

During the review meeting of the Women and Child Development Department, the Governor laid special emphasis on the effective implementation of departmental schemes. Directing the officials to properly implement the schemes of the state and central government, he said that the benefits of all the schemes should reach the beneficiaries on time.

Emphasizing the need to pay special attention to the availability of nutritious food for adolescent girls, he directed the ministers and officials of the department to make regular surprise visits to Anganwadi centers and ensure that the government schemes are being implemented properly.

The Governor also directed the department to hold regular meetings with the ministers so that the problems arising in the implementation of the schemes can be discussed and their solution can be found. She also directed to appoint CDPOs, supervisors and workers in the districts.

Governor Anandiben said that Anganwadi is the main center of society and human development. It is our responsibility to ensure proper development of Anganwadi centers. Unless we work ourselves, we cannot instruct others. We should work for social welfare along with our duty.

Discussing institutional delivery, the Governor said that at present only 85 percent deliveries are taking place in hospitals, while 25 percent deliveries are taking place outside hospitals. She directed the officials to analyze the reasons for this problem and take necessary steps to overcome them.

She also emphasized on the need to narrate patriotism, stories of martyrs or religious stories in front of pregnant mothers during the Godh Bharai program in Anganwadi centers. He said that music should also be included during such programs, so that the child growing in the womb can also get sanskar. While talking about paying special attention to the education of Anganwadi workers at the time of their appointment, the Governor directed to ensure that all the activities in Anganwadi are conducted as per the calendar and regularly.

The Governor also emphasized on the speedy construction of new Anganwadi centers in Ayodhya district and providing them with necessary kits on time. He directed the departmental ministers and officials to make every effort for the development of Anganwadi centers. He said that Anganwadi children should be made to visit school, temple, panchayat house, playground and market, so that their all-round development can take place.

In the meeting, Cabinet Minister Baby Rani Maurya expressed gratitude to the Governor’s suggestions and assured that effective implementation of the schemes would be ensured by following all the guidelines. He said that the department would hold regular meetings and pay special attention to the development of Anganwadi centers, availability of nutritious food and education of children. The department will ensure that all the beneficiaries get the benefits of the schemes on time.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary to Governor Dr. Sudhir M Bobde, Minister of State for Women Welfare and Child Development Pratibha Shukla, Principal Secretary Women and Child Development Department Leena Johri, Secretary Women and Child Development Department B. Chandrakala, Special Secretary Women and Child Development Department Sudha Verma, Director ICDS Sarneet Kaur Broka and other officers were also present.
