Statistics the flavour of the day at LU workshop

Lucknow: It was the third day of the workshop “Snehashish” on 25th May 2024. Both the sessions on this day were taken by Dr. Monika Misra, Associate Professor, School of Social Sciences, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. She was welcomed by the Head of the Department, Dr. Archana Shukla. The topic of her first session was “Parametric and Non-Parametric Test” in which she discussed various aspects of Parametric and Non-Parametric Tests. She talked about the descriptive and inferential statistics and measurements of central tendency. She also talked about the assumptions of these tests. In addition to this, she explained some tests like t-test, ANOVA.

The second session was on the topic “Statistics: Paradigms of Research”. In this lecture she simplified the paradigms and different approaches to Research. The four elements of a paradigm which are ontology, epistemology, methodology and axiology were clarified by her. Subsequently, she described the evolution of research paradigm from positivism to post-positivism, and also discussed about the major paradigms like constructionism, interpretivism, critical theory and pragmatism.

Besides that, she answered the queries of participants. At the end, a vote of thanks was extended to her by Dr. Megha Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Lucknow and a certificate of appreciation was also provided to her.
