Lucknow: On the second day of the eight-day All India Contemporary Sculpture Camp being organised at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Tagore Marg Campus, with the support of Lucknow Development Authority, figures began to emerge in stones.
Ten artists from five states of the country started carving figures in stone on the second day of the camp. Along with this, many artists, students and art lovers of the city also showed enthusiasm in seeing the art pieces being made in this camp and appreciated the works of the artists.
Out of the ten sculptors in the camp, eight are male and two are female sculptors. Nidhi Sabhaya from Ahmedabad, Gujarat is a young female sculptor in the camp, who completed her art education from MS University, Baroda, Gujarat two years ago.
Nidhi is an energetic sculptor whose works are based on science structure. In her sculptures, many types of small and big shapes and small and big hole-like shapes are visible, which she uses as breathing space in her sculptures. Nidhi mostly uses marble as a medium, because she believes that marble is a medium which has more possibilities.
The second woman sculptor in the camp, Avni Patel, is from Surat, Gujarat. She is working as a freelance sculptor. Her subjects are mainly based on the ups and downs in her own life and nature. She believes that we have a different relationship with nature. Avni seems to have a different attachment to natural things like water, moon, etc. Her favorite medium is pink and black marble. Apart from this, she also uses different shapes of bronze in her works from time to time.
Camp coordinator Bhupendra Asthana said that the theme of the camp is nature. All the artists are busy giving concrete form to their ideas on stone on this subject. The artists believe that the complete figures can be seen clearly on the fourth day of the camp. Ratnapriya and photographer Harshit are doing the work of talking and interviewing all the artists about their works in the documentation team of the camp.
