Tel Aviv: Gaza has been almost destroyed by Israel’s continuous attacks. Every day the Israeli army is raining bombs on the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, Gaza has now been hit by another trouble. Polio has started to grip people amidst the devastating Israel-Hamas war.
10-month-old child has polio
A 10-month-old child born during the war has got polio. This child named Abdel-Rahman Abuel-Jedian started crawling at an early age. Then one day, he suddenly froze, his left leg seemed paralyzed.
According to the World Health Organization, this child is the first confirmed case of polio inside Gaza in 25 years.
Suddenly stopped walking
The child’s mother Navin Abuel-Jedian said while crying, ‘Abdel-Rahman was an energetic child, but suddenly he stopped crawling, stopped moving, stopped standing.
Warning had already been given
Healthcare workers in Gaza have been warning about the possibility of a polio outbreak for months, as the humanitarian crisis continues to grow due to Israel’s invasion of the Strip. Abdel-Rahman’s case is now confirming the health workers’ fears.
The World Health Organization says that before the war, Gaza children were vaccinated on a large scale against polio. But Abdel-Rahman was not vaccinated because he was born just before October 7, when Hamas militants attacked Israel and Israel retaliated against Gaza, forcing his family to immediately flee. Hospitals were attacked and routine vaccinations for newborns were almost stopped.
