No More Wedding Woes! UP Government to Assist Fishermen’s Daughters

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an important scheme to assist the daughters of fishermen in their marriages. Fishermen will no longer have to worry about the financial burden of their daughters’ weddings. Under this scheme, the government has announced a grant of Rs.51,000 for each marriage. Of this amount, Rs.35,000 will be deposited into the bride’s account, while Rs.16,000 will be provided for wedding expenses.

Relief for Fishermen Families

This assistance comes as a significant relief for each fishing family, as most of them are economically disadvantaged. There are over 3,000 registered fishermen in the district, who cultivate fish in ponds ranging from one to eight bighas. These families will no longer face financial difficulties when it comes to their daughters’ weddings.

Who Will Benefit?

This scheme is aimed at individuals from 13 specific communities, including Kewat, Aakhetak, Mallah, Nishad, and Bind. Fishermen with an annual income of less than Rs.2 lakh and who have been engaged in fish farming for over a year will be eligible for this assistance.

Group Marriage Scheme

The Fisheries Department is also running group marriage schemes to benefit as many families as possible. The Chief Executive Officer of the department, Vikas Kumar Deepankar, stated that gifts will be provided for the daughter’s wedding, and the relevant amount will also be transferred to the bride’s account.

Poor Families Missing Out on Housing Scheme

On the other hand, many poor families are not receiving the benefits of the government housing scheme. Several eligible families are still forced to live in thatched roofs. In the Sakramau village of Mau Aima development block, there are many impoverished families who have not received the benefits of the housing scheme, despite having applied multiple times to the village head and secretary.

These families report that during the rainy season, water drips from the thatched roofs, causing them significant distress. Villagers have appealed to the authorities to ensure they receive the benefits of the government housing scheme to improve their living standards.

In this situation, the government and relevant officials are expected to address these issues soon, and eligible families hope to receive the benefits of the housing scheme.
