Lucknow: The capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, is currently hosting a grand exhibition of contemporary art on an unprecedented scale, featuring the artworks of 38 artists. Organized by the prestigious Fluorescence Art Gallery, the fair was inaugurated with grandeur at Phoenix Palassio in the first week of February. Artists, curators, critics, and art collectors from various parts of the country, along with a large number of art enthusiasts, have been actively participating in this landmark event. Given the overwhelming response from visitors, not only from Lucknow but also from other districts, the exhibition has been extended until February 28.
Many prominent artists and art critics have expressed their appreciation for this large-scale exhibition being held in the capital of Uttar Pradesh for the first time. Senior artist of the city, Jay Krishna Agrawal, remarked that Lucknow’s art scene had been experiencing a void for quite some time, making it seem as though the direction of modern art had shifted. However, with the success of the Lucknow Contemporary Indian Art Fair – 2025 at Phoenix Palassio, a new hope has emerged. He believes that art, once confined within institutional walls, is now finding fresh avenues to flourish.
The remarkable success of this art fair is a testament to the relentless efforts of Fluorescence Art Gallery’s founder and director, Ms. Neha Singh, along with her dedicated team, including curators Bhupendra Kumar Asthana, Gopal Samantree, and Rajesh Kumar. Their collective hard work has given this initiative a significant stature in the art community.
Hosting an art exhibition in a bustling and dynamic mall environment is undoubtedly a challenging task. However, the organizers have strategically structured a dedicated space within Phoenix Palassio to ensure that the artworks are displayed in a manner that enhances their aesthetic appeal. Typically, art galleries provide a curated ambiance ideal for exhibitions, but they attract only a niche audience. By choosing a mall, the organizers have successfully brought contemporary art closer to the common public, making it more accessible to people from all walks of life. This initiative not only aims to engage audiences beyond the elite art circles but also seeks to promote the commercial aspects of contemporary art.
The Lucknow Contemporary Indian Art Fair – 25 has showcased contemporary artworks representing various Indian states, drawing visitors into an immersive artistic experience. The presence of experts has added depth to the event, enriching attendees with insightful discussions, debates, and lectures on contemporary art. These interactive sessions have captivated art lovers, making the exhibition more meaningful and engaging.
Art fairs like these should ideally be organized at least once a year, as they not only contribute to the cultural enrichment of a city but also hold immense potential for further expansion. The possibilities for growth in this initiative are limitless, paving the way for future large-scale art exhibitions in Lucknow.
Curators Bhupendra Asthana and Rajesh Kumar have confirmed that visitors can explore the exhibition daily until February 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
