Lucknow: The 20th convocation of King George Medical University, Lucknow was concluded under the chairmanship of Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Chancellor of the State Anandiben Patel. In the ceremony, the Governor distributed a total of 1152 degrees and 47 medals to 15 meritorious students in the Medical University, which includes 36 gold medals, 07 silver and 02 bronze medals.
All 1,152 degrees were uploaded on DigiLocker by the Chancellor by pressing the button. MBBS student Devanshi Katiyar was awarded 15 medals including the Chancellor Gold Medal and KGMU’s most prestigious Hewett Gold Medal.
Expressing happiness over the girl students receiving more medals than the boys, she said that this is a great example of women empowerment. In the ceremony, Dr. Rajiv Bahl and neurologist Prof. Ashutosh Tiwari were honored with the honorary degree of D.Sc. by the Chancellor and Prof. Manchandra was given the Life Time Achievement Award and the outstanding medical teachers of the university were also given the Appreciation Award.
While wishing a bright future for the degree and medal recipients, the Governor said that they are becoming an ideal for all generations and are also the foundation stone for the creation of a new India.
Describing Indian culture as the culture of world welfare and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, she said that a healthy nation is built only with healthy citizens.
While addressing the function, the Governor said that doctors play the role of protecting the health and lives of patients. She called upon the doctors present to treat patients with full sensitivity and compassion. She said that those who do excellent work in the field of medicine should be made their role model and guide and they should make the medical profession proud with their work.
Describing doctors as helpers of patients as well as their friends, she said that medical services are meaningful only when they include human sensitivity.
While addressing the young doctors, the Chancellor said that India is among the leading nations of the world in the field of medical technology.
Continuous efforts should be made to maintain high standards of medical education and professional ethics. She said that with the development of science and technology, there is a possibility of a huge change in the medical field through technical experiments.
Artificial Intelligence, robotic surgery and ultra-modern technologies will give a new direction to the health sector. Regarding the children invited to the convocation, she said that it can be helpful in setting their future goals.
She called upon the children to dream with open eyes and work hard and diligently to achieve it. Deputy Chief Minister and Medical Education and Medical and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak, while congratulating the degree and medal recipient doctors, said that they should serve the patients by considering them as God and parents. She said that work should be done for the welfare of all human beings and to benefit the last person in the society.
On this occasion, Secretary Health Research Department and Director General Indian Council of Medical Research, Government of India, Dr. Rajiv Bahl, while addressing the young doctors, said that the doctor should work keeping in mind honesty and service to humanity. She said that contribute to fulfilling the resolution of developed India 2047, move forward in the direction of your passion and learn to take risks. The annual report was presented before the Chancellor by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Sonia Nityanand.
