Dreaded terrorist Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki dies

Islamabad: Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, the deputy leader of the outlawed Jamaat-ud-Dawa and brother-in-law of Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, passed away after a heart attack.

At a private hospital in Lahore, Abdul Rahman Makki was receiving treatment for high diabetes after becoming unwell a few days ago, according to the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), also known as Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT).

“Makki passed away in the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest early this morning,” a JuD official told PTI.

In 2020, an anti-terrorism court sentenced Makki, the brother-in-law of JuD head Hafiz Saeed, to six months in jail for terror funding.

Following his sentencing in a terror funding case, Makki, the deputy head of JuD, has been maintaining a low profile. In a statement, the Pakistan Mutahida Muslim League (PMML) claimed that Makki supported Pakistani ideology. Makki was placed under an arms embargo, travel restriction, and asset freeze when the UN named him a global terrorist in 2023.
