Lucknow: At the University of Lucknow, Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai recognised the students’ efforts in the ‘Karmyogi Scheme’ for the 2023-24 academic session. During a ceremony held at Manthan Hall, he presented the participants with certificates of appreciation and awarded them a scholarship of ₹15,000.
This student welfare initiative, part of the ‘earn while you learn’ program, aims to support students financially during their studies. The 25 students, drawn from various undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs, undertook diverse roles across different departments and offices within the university’s main and second campuses.
During the award ceremony, Prof. Rai congratulated the students and highlighted the profound value of skill, labour, and financial understanding that the Karmyogi Scheme instils. He commended the students for their dedication, emphasising that there are no shortcuts to hard work and that such efforts cultivate inner strength and resilience.
Prof. Rai interacted with the students and encouraged them to transform their experiences as Karmyogis into valuable skills. He urged them to carve out their own space in the world and stressed upon the importance of time and money management.
This initiative, he noted, exemplifies the university’s commitment to nurture well-rounded individuals and prepare them to navigate through the complexities of life.
The students also enjoyed receiving their first earnings while studying and praised the Karmyogi Scheme as a unique, student-focused initiative promoting holistic development beyond the classroom.
Prof. Sangeeta Sahu, Dean of Students’ Welfare, underscored the students’ various responsibilities and highlighted the balance they maintained between work and study. Their duties included office work, library assistance, computer operations, laboratory tasks, teacher assistance, and gym training. Each student contributed 100 hours of work to earn the scholarship.
