Lucknow: Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of housing projects being developed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), with a major focus on the upcoming Varun Vihar scheme.
Varun Vihar Scheme to Open in June
Officials informed that the ambitious Varun Vihar housing scheme, proposed along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, is set to be launched in June 2026. In the first phase, online registrations will open for approximately 2,100 plots in Kailash and Kashi sectors.
So far, over 330 hectares of land have been acquired from around 1,300 farmers for the project, with compensation amounting to nearly ₹1,160 crore already disbursed. The overall project is planned across a total area of 2,270 hectares, covering multiple villages in Sadar and Sarojini Nagar tehsils.
Priority to Land Formalities
The Divisional Commissioner directed revenue officials to expedite land-related formalities such as mutation and record updates, noting that the housing schemes fall under the Chief Minister’s Urban Expansion Plan. He emphasized that timely completion of these processes will ensure faster delivery of residential facilities to the public.
Future Projects and Land Monetisation
The meeting also highlighted that the Naimish Nagar scheme is proposed for launch in September 2026.
In addition, discussions were held on land monetisation proposals involving prime land parcels located at 1090 Chauraha, Aishbagh, Hariharpur, and near Jankipuram (Atrauli). Officials stated that these strategically located lands could be effectively utilized for residential and civic infrastructure development. The Commissioner directed concerned departments to examine the proposals and proceed after due approvals in public interest.
Third-Party Audit of Private Townships
To ensure transparency and quality in urban development, the Commissioner ordered third-party audits of amenities in private townships developed by builders. Institutions like the School of Planning and Architecture will be authorized to verify whether facilities such as sewage treatment plants (STPs), parks, and power substations have been developed as per approved DPRs.

Special Registry Camps for Allottees
Reviewing pending property registrations, officials reported that out of 19,230 flats constructed under various schemes, 18,953 have been allotted, but around 2,930 flats are yet to be registered. Similar delays were noted in residential and commercial plots.
The Commissioner directed the LDA to organize special registry camps to facilitate pending registrations and provide relief to allottees.
Redevelopment of Dilapidated Housing
The meeting also flagged the deteriorating condition of an old multi-storey apartment complex on Wazir Hasan Road, where several flats remain vacant. The Commissioner instructed authorities to initiate redevelopment of the structure to optimize land use and improve urban infrastructure.
Senior officials, including LDA Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar, Secretary Vivek Srivastava, and other administrative and planning officers, were present during the review.
The review underscored the government’s push to accelerate urban housing development while ensuring transparency, infrastructure quality, and timely delivery of projects in the state capital.
