Lucknow: State Governor Anandiben Patel inaugurated the “Census Data Research Workstation” of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur online from Raj Bhavan and laid the foundation stone of the Evaluation Building of the University.
On this occasion, while addressing the program, the Governor said that the establishment of the workstation will create an environment and opportunity for extensive research for the academicians, researchers and students of the region and the MoU signed in this context will act as a new step in the progress of the university.
She said that the micro level data of the census is helpful in the formulation of developmental policies, their monitoring and evaluation of schemes.
While laying the foundation stone of the Evaluation Building in the university campus, the Governor expected timely and quality construction of the building.
She said that with a strong infrastructure, any institution can accelerate the pace of its work execution. The Governor also expected a clean and transparent system to be created in the university.
She said that the interest of the students should be paramount for the university and educational institutions. Appreciating the leading role of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University in the implementation of the new education policy, she said that the university should strengthen its research side and promote as much socially useful research as possible.
The Governor said that the aim of education is not just to satiate oneself but to enrich and satiate the surrounding environment, society and the country.
Carrying her pint forward, she also expressed the expectation of efforts to remove gender disparity, increase in enrollment of girls and to reduce their drop out rate to zero. She said that the agency for construction of buildings in the university should complete its work within the stipulated time and in this context a committee should be formed by the university which keeps on regularly monitoring the progress of the work.
On this occasion, the Governor also appealed to the teachers and students of the university to plant saplings in the name of their mothers. The Governor also enquired about the progress of implementation of Samarth Portal in the university and directed to work dynamically in this direction.
It is noteworthy that the Census Data Research Workstation has been set up in the Cyber Library of the Central Library of the University. In this regard, an MoU was also signed between the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Poonam Tandon and the Director of the Census Operations Directorate, Sheetal Verma. The main objective of setting it up is to benefit educational institutions, academicians, researchers, students and data users and encourage research. On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Sudhir Mahadev Bobde, Special Officer Education, Dr. Pankaj L. Johnny were connected online from the Raj Bhavan.
