U.P. Chief Secretary clears deck to resolve issue of urban flooding

Lucknow: The meeting of the State Disaster Management Committee State Executive was concluded under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary  Manoj Kumar Singh. After discussion in the meeting, three proposals were approved.

In his address, the Chief Secretary directed to start the work of the project in a planned manner from the side of the Gomti river in the first phase to resolve the problem of urban flooding in the areas adjacent to the  Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench. He said that the house of any common citizen should not collapse in this.

In the meeting, approval was given to a proposal of Rs. 209.15 crore from State Disaster Mitigation Fund for strengthening of drains to deal with the disaster-like situation arising due to urban flooding in the areas near High Court, Lucknow Bench, Lucknow.

Earlier it was informed that due to excessive rainfall during monsoon season, to deal with the disaster-like problem arising due to urban flooding in the area near  High Court in Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar Scheme, Lucknow Development Authority got the drainage plan of the area prepared by doing a hydrological study of the entire catchment area through IIT Roorkee.

As per the report of the hydrological study, Nagar Nigam Lucknow has got a DPR of Rs. 209.15 crore prepared from NCPE Infrastructure India (P) Ltd. for strengthening of drains. This scheme is covered under the guidelines issued by the Government of India regarding State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF).

In the same sequence, the proposal to give Rs 80.1037 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund for the revival and remodeling of rain drains from NH-24 AVS College to Samberi culvert in Municipal Corporation, Ghaziabad was approved in the meeting. Earlier, it was informed that this project is in accordance with the guidelines of SDMF and this project has also been inspected by IIT Roorkee.

Similarly, the proposal to give Rs 267.25 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund for urban flood management in Ayodhya city was approved by the State Executive Committee. This will help in resolving the problem of flood and water logging in urban areas under the Municipal Corporation Ayodhya limits.

Agriculture Production Commissioner Mrs. Monica Garg, Principal Secretary Urban Development  Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary Revenue  P. Guru Prasad, Secretary Home Rajesh Kumar, Secretary Medical Health and Family Welfare  Ranjan Kumar and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
