Lucknow: With the aim of ensuring the availability of pure silk to the general public, Silk Expo-2024 was organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow from 22 October to 28 October 2024. The expo was concluded by Additional Chief Secretary B. L. Meena. 45 stalls were set up in the expo for exhibition and sale of prestigious silk products of various states including Uttar Pradesh, such as Banarasi, Chanderi Silk, Kanjeevaram, Mysore Silk, Balucheri Sarees, Salwar and Suits.
On the closing ceremony, Banarasi Weavers, Varanasi was awarded the first prize for maximum sales, while Vijay Niwada of Bihar was awarded the second prize for the sale of Tussar and Matka Silk and Sparsh Saree of West Bengal was awarded the third prize for their skilled craftsmanship. During the closing ceremony, the Additional Chief Secretary also directed to invite the weavers with the highest sales to the training of farmers to share their experiences. Also, instructions were given to send Jyoti Ajeevika Mahila Swayam Sahayata Samuh from Fatehpur on an exposure visit to Central Moonga Eri Research and Training Institute in Jorhat, Assam under Eri Sector.
At the end of the program, Director (Silk) Sunil Kumar Verma informed that to innovate in the designs of the weavers and to compete with the weavers of other states, an MoU will soon be signed with NFT located in Raebareli, which will enable the weavers to compete by training them. The Director urged the general public to avoid shopping from Silk Expos with misleading names and buy silk sarees only after certification.
