Stroke Awareness Drive at Chandan Hospital Highlights Importance of Early Detection and Treatment

Lucknow | On the occasion of World Stroke Day, Chandan Hospital, Lucknow, organized a special program to honour the “Stroke Superstars” — individuals who have successfully recovered from stroke and are now leading healthy lives. The event aimed to raise awareness about the prevention, recognition, and timely treatment of stroke, emphasizing that early action can save lives.

Dr. Arvind Bihari, Head and Chairperson of the Department of Neurology at Chandan Hospital, said that stroke is the third leading cause of death in India, but timely medical intervention can make a crucial difference. He stressed, “Every minute matters,” noting that millions of brain cells are lost with each passing minute during a stroke. Dr. Bihari urged people to remember the acronym B.E.F.A.S.T. — Balance, Eyes, Face, Arm, Speech, Time — to quickly recognize stroke symptoms and seek immediate medical help.

Dr. Rajan Kumar, Vice-Chairperson of the Neurology Department, highlighted that “prevention is the first step of cure.” He encouraged young people to focus on regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management, pointing out the rise in stroke cases among younger populations.

Dr. Mohammad Farooq Ansari, Medical Director of Chandan Hospital, shared that the hospital is a 24×7 stroke-ready centre, equipped with advanced facilities such as thrombolytic therapy (clot-dissolving medication) and thrombectomy (clot removal procedure). A dedicated team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, and physiotherapists ensures comprehensive patient care.

Doctors present at the event agreed that awareness is key to reducing the risks associated with stroke. The initiative by Chandan Hospital was widely appreciated as a thoughtful effort toward building a healthier and more informed society.
