Agra: Visitors to the Taj Mahal will have the rare opportunity to view the original tombs of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal during the three-day Urs celebration from January 26 to 28, 2025. Entry to the monument will be free during this period. Special security arrangements, including additional personnel deployment, have been put in place across the Red and Yellow zones surrounding the Taj Mahal to ensure the safety of visitors.
Special Viewing of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz’s Original Tombs
This year marks the 370th Urs of Shah Jahan. On January 26 and 27, the original tombs will be accessible to visitors after 2 PM, while on January 28, the tombs will remain open throughout the day. Free entry to the monument during these three days is expected to attract a large number of visitors. Authorities have issued a security alert to ensure smooth operations and to monitor activities closely during the event.
Enhanced Security Measures
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which oversees the security of the inner premises (Red Zone), has deployed additional personnel at various strategic points. Senior Commandant V.K. Dubey confirmed that enhanced monitoring will be conducted through CCTV cameras. In addition, meetings with committee officials responsible for the Urs celebration will be held to coordinate safety measures.
The outer security of the Taj Mahal (Yellow Zone) falls under the jurisdiction of the local police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Assistant Commissioner of Police (Taj Security) Syed Arib Ahmed stated that extra police forces will be stationed at the monument’s western and eastern gates to manage the anticipated crowds. Personnel will also patrol along the Yamuna River to maintain security during the event.
Legal and Protest Concerns
A local organization has filed a petition in court seeking permission to perform a religious ritual at the Taj Mahal during the Urs. The group has also issued warnings about possible protests. In the past, some members of the organization were apprehended while attempting to conduct rituals at the site. In light of this, the security alert has been heightened to prevent any disruptions.
The Urs celebration at the Taj Mahal is a significant event, attracting both devotees and tourists. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety and smooth functioning of the event, providing a unique experience for visitors while preserving the sanctity of the monument.
