Lucknow: In the Plastic Surgery Department of Sanjay Gandhi PGI, surgery of tumors caused by vascular malformations has now become easier and safer with the use of ultrasonic energy, a state-of-the-art surgical instrument Harmonic Scalpel. The high-tech state-of-the-art surgical instrument Harmonic Scalpel is used to cut and scar tissue simultaneously. This is the latest device available in the last decade. Using this latest gadget, the tumor has been removed by performing surgery on the lip of a one-year-old child. Reportedly this technique has been used for the treatment of vascular malformations for the first time in Sanjay Gandhi PGI and possibly in the state. With this surgery, SGPGI has become one of the very few centers in the world where this advanced facility of treating vascular malformations by Harmonic Scalpel is available.

Dr. Rajiv Agarwal, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, said that one-year-old Ayush Yadav was born with a large vascular tumor on the upper lip. He was initially treated with sclerosant agent to reduce the wound, but it did not give any special benefit. After this, on 29th May, he was operated using the latest technology.
