Lucknow: To ensure that roads, streets and mohallas are not filled with sewer water during rainy season in urban bodies of the state and that there is no problem of waterlogging in cities due to blockage of drains and sewers, Urban Development and Energy Minister  AK Sharma directed the officials to expedite the works of sewer system of the bodies and to speed up the cleaning of silt from drains and lifting of garbage.

He said that waterlogging should not occur in rainy season due to negligence in work anywhere in the cities, due to which common citizens have to face problems. He gave strict instructions that any kind of laxity, negligence and indifference in the cleaning of drains and sewers of the bodies will not be tolerated at any level. Appropriate steps should be taken for the management of sewer system in the bodies. People should not have to face diseases due to the filth of sewer water during rainy season.

Urban Development Minister  AK Sharma was reviewing the works of sewer system, drainage, cleaning of drains etc. with Jal Nigam and civic officials at Jal Nigam Field Hostel ‘Sangam’ . He expressed displeasure over the 120 MLD GH Canal STP not being operational on time and being delayed by 03 months and directed the Jal Nigam Manager to make all preparations within 03 days so that if this STP is not operational on time, the sewer water does not fill the roads, streets and mohallas in this area and the pumping station installed here should remain in working condition.

He also directed the Municipal Commissioner Lucknow and General Manager Jalkal to monitor the works. During this, he inquired about the progress of the sewer system installed in Alambagh, Rajajipuram, Kukrail, Bharwara Zone-1 Old Lucknow, Kaiserbagh, Wazirganj. He directed that the works of sewer system of all the bodies should be expedited and directed the General Manager Jalkal to regularly monitor these works.

The Urban Development Minister said that all the bodies will not tolerate any laxity in cleaning the silt of drains/sewers in their areas, cleaning the bushes grown around it and removing the garbage. He directed all the body personnel to continue the work on war footing to provide relief to the people from the crisis of waterlogging during the rainy season by using manpower and machinery as much as possible in the 72-hour cleaning campaign of drains. He also directed the nodal officers to regularly monitor the cleaning work.

Municipal Commissioner Lucknow Inderjit Singh, General Manager Jalkal and senior officials of Jal Nigam along with representatives of the companies doing the work of cleaning system and sewerage system were present in the meeting.
