Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a fervent appeal to the electorate of Varanasi on Thursday, calling upon them to establish a new benchmark in voter turnout as the city heads to the polls on June 1. Addressing the significance of the election for Kashi, Modi emphasized its role in shaping not only a ‘Navkashi’ but also a transformed India.
In a video message dedicated to Varanasi, from where he is contesting for the third consecutive time, PM Modi portrayed the city as a hub of opportunities, imbued with spiritual significance and cultural richness. He attributed his representation of Varanasi to the blessings of Lord Shiva at the revered Kashi Vishwanath temple and the unwavering support of its residents.
Asserting the pivotal nature of the upcoming election, PM Modi underscored its broader implications for national development. He urged the people of Varanasi to strive for a new milestone in voting turnout, emphasizing the city’s progress in youth welfare and development over the past decade.
Reflecting on the enthusiasm witnessed among the city’s youth during his nomination filing, the Prime Minister expressed optimism for a similar fervor on polling day. He emphasized the significance of each vote cast in Varanasi, affirming that their support would bolster his resolve and vitality.
Varanasi is poised for a fierce electoral contest between PM Modi and Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai in the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1. The constituency, comprising five assembly segments, holds strategic importance in Uttar Pradesh’s electoral landscape.
PM Modi, seeking a third consecutive term from Varanasi, aims to secure victory with a substantial margin, building on his resounding success in previous elections. In both 2014 and 2019, he emerged triumphant with significant vote shares, solidifying the BJP’s dominance in Uttar Pradesh.
