Mamata Banerjee to Deliver Lecture at University of Oxford, Set to Meet Investors

London: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to embark on a significant visit to London later this month, where she will deliver a lecture at the prestigious University of Oxford and hold meetings with investors to attract investments in Bengal. According to official sources, Banerjee will leave for London on March 21, with her lecture scheduled at Oxford University on March 27.

Meeting with Leading Industrialists

The invitation for this lecture was extended to her by Oxford University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Jonathan Michie during the Bengal Global Business Summit in November 2023. During her visit, Mamata Banerjee is also scheduled to meet top industrialists on March 25. The primary agenda of this meeting is to attract industrial investments to West Bengal. This will be her second official visit to the UK after her last trip in November 2017.

Focus on Boosting Investments in Bengal

During her previous visit, Banerjee attended a business summit in Edinburgh, organized in collaboration with Scottish Development International, Asia Scotland Institute, and the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce. The Chief Minister has been actively focusing on international visits to bring global investments to West Bengal. In September 2023, she traveled to Spain, where she attended several meetings aimed at boosting investments in Bengal. She later participated in a business conference in Dubai.

Previous International Engagements

In September 2018, Mamata Banerjee visited Italy and Germany, where she held discussions with various officials on strengthening trade and diplomatic ties. In June 2017, she was in The Hague, Netherlands, where she received the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award for the ‘Kanyashree’ scheme, a financial assistance program for schoolgirls.

With her upcoming visit to the UK, Mamata Banerjee aims to further strengthen West Bengal’s position as a prime destination for industrial investment, reinforcing her government’s commitment to economic growth and global partnerships.
