Lucknow University Organizes Water Yoga Program at Maha Kumbh 2025

Prayagraj: The Department of Yoga, Faculty of Yoga and Alternative Medicine, Lucknow University, organized a Water Yoga program at Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj on February 20, 2025. The event aimed to highlight the benefits of practicing yoga in water, which has been recognized for its positive impact on mental and physical health.

Dr. Amarjeet Yadav, the Coordinator of the Faculty, stated that water yoga is particularly beneficial for alleviating depression and high blood pressure. Practicing yoga in water helps rejuvenate the body, enhances flexibility, and activates cognitive functions. Specific asanas such as Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) in water help stretch muscles, aid in weight loss, and reduce stress. Similarly, Tadasana (Mountain Pose) alleviates irritability and prevents excessive acid formation in the body. Performing Garudasana (Eagle Pose) in water improves concentration, while Pranayama helps purify the mind and blood circulation.

Dr. Yadav further explained that practicing Anulom Vilom in water provides twice the benefits compared to its practice on land. It boosts energy levels, increases oxygen flow in the body, and strengthens the immune system. Additionally, Bhramari Pranayama enhances consciousness, improves digestion, and promotes inner peace and balance through meditation. Regular meditation in water enhances sleep quality and decision-making abilities. Dr. Yadav also emphasized that experiencing Kumbh fosters emotional transformation and adherence to the spiritual principles established by Indian sages.

A special demonstration of water yoga was conducted by Roma Hemwani, a world record holder in the discipline, who shared her 20 years of experience. She highlighted how water yoga instills enthusiasm, joy, and overall well-being. The event also featured a themed dance performance on Yoga Kumbh by students Preeti, Ankita Gautam, Sushmita Singh, Khushbu Gautam, Sabita Ranjan, Namrata Mishra, Priyanshi, and Ruchi Dhawan. Additionally, a mesmerizing Shiva Stuti was performed by Madhur Tripathi, a student of the Yoga Department.
