Lucknow: In a significant step towards the conservation of the Gomti River, the Lucknow Connection-Worldwide (LCWW) family organized an insightful seminar. The event was held at Dhobia Ashram, located 150 km from Lucknow, focusing on the crucial water sources that recharge the river.
The seminar witnessed the presence of LCWW founder Sunil Mishra, senior admin Anil Shukla, and other group members. Prominent guests included social activist Sushil Sitapuri, dedicated to Gomti conservation, Dr. Meenu Khare, former Program Director, Akashvani Lucknow, Pawan Kumar Jain, retired Senior Manager from Punjab & Sind Bank, and RJ Shobhit Gupta, founder member of the Radio Jockey Club.
Significance of Dhobia Ashram and Water Sources
The discussion highlighted the importance of Dhobia Ashram and its water sources, which serve as one of the largest natural suppliers to the Gomti River. Arun Kapoor, representing Dhobia Ashram, expressed his appreciation for LCWW’s initiative and hoped for concrete steps toward restoring these water bodies.
Commitment to Gomti’s Revival
Dr. Meenu Khare voiced concerns over the current state of the river and praised the dedicated efforts of Sushil Sitapuri and the Dhobia Ashram community in its conservation. She also reaffirmed her commitment to the cause.
LCWW founder Sunil Mishra emphasized the need to document the river’s journey through video mapping, which would help create an effective action plan for conservation. Senior Admin Anil Shukla assured full support from LCWW, recognizing the initiative as a crucial environmental movement.
Renowned social worker and author Nagendra Bahadur Singh suggested raising public awareness among communities living along the riverbanks and proposed taking a delegation to the government for further action.
Field Visit and Awareness Through Music
During the seminar, all members visited the water sources of Dhobia Ashram to assess their current condition. The event concluded with soulful songs and musical performances, delivering a message of awareness and commitment towards the conservation of the Gomti River and its water resources.
