Governor Anandiben Patel Urges Young Doctors to Build a Healthy, Empowered, and Prosperous India

Lucknow |At the 2nd Convocation of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor Anandi Ben Patel called upon newly graduated medical students to apply their knowledge, skills, and values beyond textbooks for the welfare of society. She emphasized that when a physician’s heart is filled with compassion, the mind enriched with science, and hands dedicated to service, medicine becomes the ultimate act of humanity.

Addressing the convocation, the Governor urged students to uphold integrity, dedication, and commitment in contributing to a healthy, empowered, and prosperous India. She encouraged them to resolve to achieve meaningful goals in life and to play a significant role in improving public health.

During the ceremony, 297 students were awarded degrees, and meritorious students received medals. The degrees were also digitally uploaded to DigiLocker, reflecting the institute’s commitment to modern practices.

Highlighting the importance of medical institutions, Governor Patel noted that the progress of any nation depends on the health of its citizens, which relies on strong healthcare systems. She congratulated the institute on receiving NABH accreditation, making it the first public-sector hospital in northern India to achieve this distinction, underscoring excellence, transparency, and patient dedication.

She lauded the institute’s achievements in robotic surgery, with over 150 successful operations completed in less than three months, and described the upcoming “Gamma Knife Machine” at the Neurosciences Center as a revolutionary step for precise brain tumor treatment. She also highlighted initiatives like the “Green OPD” for environmental conservation and the launch of a 10-bed NRC ward for malnourished children as examples of service and compassion.

Governor Patel encouraged integration of innovation and research in medical education and advocated combining modern medicine with Ayurveda, Yoga, and naturopathy for holistic patient care. She emphasized collective work among all healthcare practitioners—Allopathic, Ayurvedic, and Homeopathic—and suggested distributing available medicines to children at Anganwadi centers and primary schools.

She urged medical students and doctors to view medicine not just as a profession but as a supreme service to humanity, emphasizing compassion, empathy, and patience in patient care. She stressed maternal health as the cornerstone of national health policy and called on doctors to serve in rural areas for at least three years and for private practitioners to provide free treatment to at least five patients annually.

Citing the 2025–26 Union Budget, Governor Patel highlighted initiatives such as 10,000 new medical seats across the country, expansion of Ayushman Bharat health insurance to 12 crore families, and establishment of daycare cancer centers in every district, promoting health security for all segments of society. She underscored preventive measures like safe drinking water, nutrition, adolescent hemoglobin monitoring, and HPV vaccination for girls to prevent cervical cancer.

Prof. R.B. Singh, former Head of the Geography Department at Banaras Hindu University, addressed students, urging them to “combine knowledge with wisdom, science with compassion, and innovation with integrity” as the key to true success.

Health and Family Welfare Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak congratulated meritorious students, acknowledging the institute’s achievements over the past eight years and ongoing infrastructure developments, including a forthcoming auditorium. He praised Governor Patel’s leadership in elevating universities and institutes across the state in education, innovation, and social responsibility.
