Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to give preference to local people in the allotment of leases for fisheries in ponds/rivers. Emphasizing on purity and transparency in lease allotment, he said that there is a need to simplify the rules of fisheries. The process of lease allotment for fisheries should be done online, for this a portal should be prepared by the department.
The Chief Minister gave these instructions while discussing the progress of departmental schemes during a meeting with a delegation of officials of Fisheries Cooperative Unions in the presence of Fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad at his official residence. He said that the livelihood of a large population in the state has traditionally been based on fisheries. In such a situation, while allocating lease of ponds/rivers etc. Preference should be given to the local people of this community.
Chief Minister Yogi also emphasized on running a campaign for lease allotment and said that the amount received from the lease will also become a means of income enhancement of the concerned Gram Panchayat. The Fisheries Department, Fisheries Cooperative Societies and Fish Seed Development Corporation should widely publicize the efforts being made by the government for the development of the fisheries sector through seminars, symposia, discussions etc.
