Lucknow: In a major stride towards strengthening the police force and promoting transparent governance, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed appointment letters to 1,494 newly selected assistant operators in the UP Police Telecommunications Department at a grand ceremony held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow.

The Chief Minister emphasized that before 2017, the recruitment process in Uttar Pradesh was marred by rampant corruption, nepotism, favoritism, and monetary dealings, which shattered the dreams of thousands of deserving youth. “Such flawed practices led to a breakdown in law and order, increasing riots, terror attacks, and general unrest in the state,” CM Yogi said.

A Transformative Turn Since 2017

Highlighting the reforms initiated after the formation of the “double engine government” in 2017, CM Yogi said, “We restructured the police recruitment board, enforced transparency and accountability, and established strict standards. Today, UP stands as the leading state in the country in terms of police recruitment.”

He revealed that since 2017, over 2.17 lakh youth have been recruited into the UP Police—the highest in India. In total, 8.5 lakh government jobs have been provided across various departments in the past eight years.

The CM stated that improved recruitment standards boosted investor confidence, creating employment for over 2 crore youth within the state. He also announced that training capacities have expanded massively—from 3,000 to over 60,000 police personnel being trained annually.

Women Representation and Agniveer Reservation

Out of the 1,494 newly appointed assistant operators, around 300 are women, showcasing the government’s commitment to ensuring 20% female reservation in the force. CM Yogi also confirmed 20% reservation for Agniveers in police recruitment to include disciplined, trained youth from the armed services.

Police Telecom – The Backbone of Communication

Commending the UP Police Telecom wing for its exemplary role during events like the Mahakumbh, the CM said, “In a state of 25 crore people, the role of police telecom is as crucial as any frontline force. Communication is the backbone of police efficiency and modernization.”

He emphasized the integration of technology in policing and reaffirmed that the UP Police is evolving as a model force, known for being riot-free, responsive, and citizen-friendly.

Recruitment as a Symbol of Meritocracy

The event was attended by Minister Suresh Khanna, Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, DGP Rajeev Krishna, DG Telecom Ashutosh Pandey, DG Recruitment Board S.D. Shirodkar, and DG PHQ Anand Swaroop, among others.

Several newly appointed candidates expressed gratitude to the CM and praised the transparent and merit-based recruitment. Sandhya Singh from Shahjahanpur said, “I owe this opportunity to the transparent system introduced by CM Yogi.” Brijesh Kumar Valmiki from Daliganj echoed similar sentiments, calling the process “a symbol of justice.”

Vaishali Gupta from Lucknow added, “This government has proven that hard work never goes waste in UP anymore,” while Kanchan Saini from Muzaffarnagar called her dual appointment as a constable and now an assistant operator a “double achievement.”

In closing, CM Yogi urged all newly appointed personnel to uphold the values of service, discipline, and public trust. “The people of Uttar Pradesh look up to you—not just for your work, but also for your conduct,” he reminded them.
