CM Yogi deals a body blow to the criminal nexus

Lucknow: The zero-tolerance policy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has led to a significant crackdown on crime in Uttar Pradesh, with over 80,000 criminals convicted in the past seven and a half years. This approach has not only bolstered public safety but has also demonstrated the government’s commitment to making the state crime-free.

A total of 54 criminals have been sentenced to death during this period, with the maximum penalties handed down for crimes against women and adolescents. The Yogi government’s firm stance against criminals has resulted in a sharp decline in offenses, and the policy has proven particularly effective in bringing justice to victims of heinous crimes.

One of the key agencies driving this success is the UP Police’s Prosecution Directorate, which has been instrumental in securing convictions without the need for force. While encounters have been a notable aspect of UP’s fight against crime, the courtroom victories led by the Prosecution Directorate demonstrate that the legal system is also a powerful tool in the state’s arsenal. The Directorate, once on the fringes during previous administrations, has been given special priority under the Yogi government, contributing greatly to this achievement.

In cases related to crimes against women and adolescents, the Prosecution Directorate has successfully convicted 28,700 criminals. These convictions reflect the government’s focus on ensuring swift justice for the most vulnerable sections of society.

Among other notable achievements, 29 criminals associated with 69 identified mafia groups and their gangs have been brought to justice, along with 496 individuals classified as dreaded or top-10 category criminals. These convictions send a clear message to those engaging in organized crime and other illegal activities that they will face the full force of the law.

The Yogi government’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime has reshaped the criminal justice landscape in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that criminals are consistently held accountable. By empowering both the police force and the Prosecution Directorate, the state has seen a significant drop in crime rates, while ensuring that justice prevails for the victims of crime.
