Cleanliness mode turned on as festivals near

Lucknow: To make the cities of the state clean, beautiful and of global standard, a “155-hour non-stop Mahasafai Abhiyan” is being run in all the urban bodies from 26 September to 02 October.

Urban Development Minister  A.K. Sharma, while giving instructions to all the officials at the body level to make the Swachhata Abhiyan successful, said that all the Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVP) and Black Spots should be identified and such places should be made clean and beautiful.

The places of the bodies where garbage is dumped should be cleaned and made beautiful. To ensure that such places do not turn into garbage sites again, children’s play parks, open gyms, vending zones, places for the elderly to sit, etc. should be built at those places. He said that to make the upcoming festivals a symbol of cleanliness, special cleanliness campaigns should be run at the bodies and Ganga Town and river ghats, religious places, main roads, crossings and heritage sites of the city to make them clean and beautiful.

Continuous efforts should be made to clean and beautify the Waste-to-Wonder Parks established in the bodies.

The Urban Development Minister the fifth day of the ongoing “155 hours non-stop Mahasafai Abhiyan” in the bodies, praised the cleanliness and beautification work of historical sites, religious places, squares and river ghats in the bodies. He said that the main roads and squares are the mirror of the city. People coming from other districts and states assess the condition of the city from the squares and main roads.

In such a situation, we have to make the main roads and squares especially clean and beautiful. This will establish the feeling of cleanliness in the nature and culture of the people, due to which they refrain from throwing garbage anywhere. He said that in view of the upcoming festivals, we have to take special care of cleanliness and beauty at the historical sites, religious places and ghats of the cities.

Minister  Sharma said that God resides in a clean environment and happiness and prosperity also increases. If we look at the prosperous countries of the world, special care is taken of cleanliness there. The citizens there are very serious and responsible towards cleanliness. He called for celebrating the upcoming festivals of Navratri, Dussehra, Deepawali, Chhath Puja as ‘Clean Festival, Healthy Festival’ and instructed all the body personnel to maintain cleanliness continuously.

On the instructions of the Minister, on the 5th day of the campaign, the areas around the heritage places, religious places and ghats were cleaned in all the bodies. The workers were made aware about not using single-use plastic and its alternatives. The toilets around the religious and historical places were cleaned and freed from yellow spots. Under the program, association with voluntary organizations, youth, colleges, art clubs, community organizations, cleaning of heritage sites and surrounding areas and its periphery, establishment of plastic prohibition zone, wall painting related to beautification and cleanliness, participation of citizens and ghat beautification work was done. The officers and employees of all Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats were instructed to ensure cleanliness of roads and streets, religious places, monasteries, temples and areas around river ghats.

The minister has given instructions to repair street lights so that devotees do not face problems in movement due to darkness during festivals. There should be no hindrance in the supply of clean drinking water and proper disposal of the offerings and garbage offered by the devotees should also be ensured. He said that people should not throw offerings and garbage here and there and dustbins should be kept around the places of worship. People should also be made aware to celebrate clean and healthy festivals by taking the cooperation of regional public representatives.

On the 5th day of the campaign, 1185 historical places (heritage places), 2478 religious places, 311 river ghats, 513 water bodies, 1605 intersections were cleaned and beautified through 17443 personnel. More than 25 thousand people participated in the public movement of cleanliness, as a result of which 33,807 kg of garbage was collected and disposed of. Special attention was also given to the cleanliness and beauty of Waste-to-Wonder Parks. During this period, 1128 CTUs were identified in 836 Waste-to-Wonder Parks of the state bodies. 28652 kg of garbage was also collected and disposed of. In which 13158 people participated along with 10156 personnel. Along with this, 1377 Waste-to-Art were also installed at these places.
