Chief Minister Distributes Scholarships Worth ₹586 Lakhs to 69,195 Sanskrit Students Across Uttar Pradesh
Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme, an initiative aimed at supporting students across all Sanskrit schools, colleges, and Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. In a digital transfer, the Chief Minister allocated ₹586 lakh to 69,195 students, symbolizing a significant investment in the preservation of Sanskrit and its cultural relevance.
Promoting Sanskrit as a Carrier of Culture and Sanatan Dharma
At the event held at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Chief Minister Adityanath emphasized the government’s commitment to making Sanskrit the “carrier of Indian culture, civilization, and Sanatan Dharma.” He highlighted that the Gurukul tradition has been a cornerstone of preserving Sanskrit and Indian culture, which, despite adversities, continues to thrive. “This is a moment of pride,” said Adityanath, “as around 1.5 lakh children are dedicating their lives to Sanskrit, nurturing our heritage and guiding the world under the Prime Minister’s leadership.”
Revitalizing the Gurukul Tradition
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the Gurukul tradition for Sanskrit education. He urged the establishment of schools based on this ancient tradition across the state, reinforcing the state government’s role in preserving Sanskrit. He highlighted the state’s initiatives to bring modern academic benefits, like scholarships, to students involved in Sanskrit studies, which had previously been neglected.
Efforts for Inclusive Support to Sanskrit Students
Previously, only 300 students could benefit from Sanskrit scholarships with income limitations imposed. However, the state government has now widened this scope to include all students from primary (Prathama) to advanced (Acharya) levels. Chief Minister Adityanath urged educational institutions to ensure that every eligible student avails of this scholarship support.
Scholarships and Research Support in Sanskrit
The government plans to introduce scholarships for those engaged in advanced Sanskrit research, including thesis writing and specific cultural studies. Adityanath encouraged students and researchers to pursue Sanskrit studies without financial concerns, positioning Sanskrit as a scientific medium capable of addressing real-world challenges. The Chief Minister noted that modern technologies like artificial intelligence and computer science recognize Sanskrit as a potentially scientific and universally accessible language.
Renewed Efforts for Sanskrit Teacher Recruitment
Adityanath announced the government’s decision to fast-track recruitment in Sanskrit schools where there are teaching vacancies, with provisions for qualified teachers on an honorarium basis until permanent hires are made. He also invited applications for teacher roles in institutions that meet certain requirements, such as free hostel and food arrangements for students.
Recognition for Sanskrit’s Role in National Heritage
The event also witnessed remarks from Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay and Vice Chancellor Prof. Bihari Lal Sharma, who lauded the government’s support in revitalizing Sanskrit. They underscored the language’s role in promoting cultural consciousness, particularly through educational reforms under the Chief Minister’s leadership.
Pilgrimage and Unveiling Ceremony
Following the scholarship ceremony, Chief Minister Adityanath paid respects at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath and Shri Kalbhairav temples. Additionally, he unveiled a grand statue of Hanumanji near Kazisarai on Babatpur Road, dedicating prayers to the revered deity. In conclusion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s inauguration of the Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme marks a pivotal step in supporting Sanskrit education and research, positioning the language at the heart of India’s cultural revival and emphasizing its potential to integrate with modern science and technology.
