Perth – India all-rounder Axar Patel highlighted that the team’s focus for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia is on planning and strategy rather than pitch conditions, as they aim to leverage their experience in Australian conditions.
Speaking during India’s training session in Perth on Friday, Patel noted, “A lot has changed since 2015 when I first toured Australia. Back then, discussions revolved around pitches, bounce, and conditions, and we played fewer matches. Now, we focus on strategy and tactics, considering potential run scenarios rather than just the pitch.”
Patel also praised the guidance available to new captain Shubman Gill, saying the presence of seasoned players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is invaluable. “For Gill, it’s perfect. Rohit bhai and Virat bhai have captaincy experience, and they provide input, which helps Gill’s growth. What’s been good is that Gill hasn’t been under pressure,” he added.

Selected ahead of veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Patel expressed confidence in his role. “I have a lot of faith in this series. I performed well at the Asia Cup with both bat and ball, and now I’m ready to contribute in Australia after a long absence. I am up to the task,” he said.
The ODI series kicks off on Sunday, with India aiming to build momentum ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
