Lucknow – A significant meeting was held today between N.K.S. Chauhan, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and representatives of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Tender/Contract Employee Union, Lucknow. The meeting resulted in an assurance to halt the termination of outsourced electricity workers across the state.
Members of the Tender/Contract Employee Union began a peaceful satyagraha in protest against several longstanding issues plaguing outsourced power employees. These include:
-
Deployment of staff below sanctioned strength
-
Unlawful termination of outsourced employees
-
Dismissals citing age beyond 55 years
-
Non-payment of dues to dismissed employees
-
Pressure to use facial attendance systems in violation of rules
-
Lack of proper contracts aligned with work duties
-
Discrimination in salary payments
-
Denial of cashless treatment for injured employees
-
No inquiry into alleged EPF scams
The protestors were subsequently detained by the police and taken to Eco Garden, Lucknow. By 2 p.m., senior police officials facilitated a dialogue between union leaders and N.K.S. Chauhan at the Chief Minister’s residence. Following deliberations, the OSD gave a verbal assurance to stop all ongoing and proposed terminations of outsourced power sector employees.
Representing the union in the talks were:
-
Mohammad Khalid, State President

-
Devendra Kumar Pandey, State General Secretary

Post the meeting, a union executive committee session was convened at 4 p.m. at Eco Garden, Alambagh. Based on the outcome of the discussion with the OSD, the union resolved to continue the satyagraha from May 16, 2025, to draw further attention to their unmet demands and ensure the verbal commitments are implemented in action.
The development marks a critical moment in the ongoing struggle of outsourced power sector employees in Uttar Pradesh who have long been demanding transparency, job security, and fair treatment.
