New Delhi: The central government has extended the current tenure of Army Chief General Manoj Pandey till June 30. General Pandey was retiring on May 31, but the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved an extension of his tenure by one month.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Pandey took over the reins of the Indian Army on April 30, 2022. He was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers (Bombay Sappers) in December 1982. Before assuming the post of COAS, he was the Vice Chief of Army Staff.
He was to retire on May 31, but the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved an extension of one month in his service.
This extension will be one month beyond his normal retirement i.e. till June 30. This extension has been given under Rule 16A (4) of the Army Rules 1954.
