Amitabh Kant Urges India’s Transition to Electric Vehicles

New Delhi – In conjunction with Ather Community Day, Ather Energy unveiled its latest offering, the Rizta electric scooter. Designed as a family scooter prioritizing comfort, convenience, and safety, the Rizta comes equipped with advanced connected features such as SkidControlTM and WhatsApp integration on the dashboard. Priced competitively for the mass market, the Rizta starts at INR 1,09,999 (Ex-showroom Bengaluru).

The Rizta will be available in two models – Rizta S and Rizta Z – with three variants featuring battery capacities of 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh, respectively. The anticipated IDC range for the 2.9 kWh variants is 123 kms, while the 3.7 kWh variant is expected to deliver a range of 160 kms. Ather offers the Rizta S in three monotone colors, while the Rizta Z will be available in seven colors, including three monotone and four dual-tone options

The Ather Community Day event was addressed by  Amitabh Kant, former CEO of Niti Ayog. During his keynote address at the second edition of Ather Community Day,  Amitabh Kant, emphasized the urgency of India’s shift towards electric vehicles (EVs). Kant stated that combustion engine technology reliant on fossil fuels is “dead,” and the future of transportation lies in electrification. He underscored the pivotal role of transforming India’s automotive sector, which currently contributes significantly to the nation’s GDP and manufacturing output.

 Amitabh Kant commented, “India must embrace the disruption of transitioning to electric vehicles to retain and expand its market share,” Kant emphasized. “By 2030, India should aim to achieve 100% electrification in two-wheelers and three-wheelers to become a global leader in EV manufacturing.”

Tarun Mehta, Founder and CEO of Ather Energy, expressed gratitude for Kant’s inspiring vision and noted the overwhelming response from the community. “Mr. Kant’s keynote address resonated deeply with our audience, highlighting the importance of embracing EV technology for a sustainable future,” Mehta stated.

The event also featured a fireside chat with  Amitabh Kant, focusing on various aspects of EV adoption, including export potential, product quality, skilling, and technology development. Audience participation was robust, with over 4000 attendees present during Kant’s talk.
