Lucknow: The SUEZ team has launched a major campaign to tackle sewer chokage in the lanes of Bharatendu Harishchandra Ward, aiming to provide residents with a cleaner and healthier environment. Where machines cannot reach, workers are manually clearing sewer blockages using traditional tools, demonstrating both dedication and ingenuity.
Since last Sunday, nearly 3–4 kilometers of sewer lines in the Ram-Ram Bank Chauraha area of Sector “A” have been desilted. To the team’s surprise, almost every manhole was clogged with large amounts of plastic waste and garbage, largely due to direct disposal of drain waste into the sewer network. This not only blocks manholes but also causes frequent overflow and chokage.
Rajesh Mathpal, Project Director at SUEZ, stressed the importance of community participation:

“Our team is working with commitment and responsibility, but the real success will come only when residents cooperate. Plastic and polythene are the biggest reasons for sewer blockage. If citizens dispose them at the right place, this problem can be eliminated. A small step by you can bring big relief to the ward.”
With cleaning operations in full swing, the campaign now calls for collective responsibility. Residents are urged to avoid dumping waste into drains and instead commit to proper disposal practices. Because, as the message reminds:
“Clean sewer manholes are possible only when responsibility is shared by all.”
