Yogi Government’s ‘Operation Conviction’ Secures Punishment for Over 97,000 Criminals, Puts Brakes on Crime in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow — In a major boost to Uttar Pradesh’s law and order mechanism, the Yogi Adityanath-led government’s crackdown initiative ‘Operation Conviction’ has resulted in the punishment of over 97,000 criminals through speedy and effective legal proceedings.

Launched on July 1, 2023, under the direct orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the campaign was aimed at strengthening the judicial system by ensuring swift convictions in criminal cases through robust courtroom advocacy and coordinated policing.

According to official data, within a span of nearly two years, 97,158 criminals have been convicted in various courts across the state. Notably, courts pronounced verdicts in 69,422 cases, delivering strong punishments, including 68 death sentences to hardened criminals found guilty of heinous offenses.

The operation has particularly targeted the state’s most dangerous offenders. Among the Top 10 listed dreaded criminals, 272 cases were prosecuted involving 395 accused individuals, many of whom have now been sentenced. Additionally, out of 69 identified mafia figures, 29 have already been convicted, showcasing the government’s resolve to dismantle organized crime networks.

The state government emphasized that Operation Conviction is not just about increasing the number of convictions but about restoring public faith in the justice system. By ensuring timely trials and unrelenting prosecution, law enforcement has sent a clear message that criminal activities will not go unpunished in Uttar Pradesh.

Officials from the Home Department have stated that the success of the operation lies in the meticulous coordination between investigating officers, prosecutors, and judiciary. Fast-tracking cases, ensuring airtight chargesheets, and using digital evidence effectively have been key strategies in securing these convictions.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reiterated that the government’s “zero-tolerance policy on crime” will continue, and the administration will further intensify efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and syndicates. The results of Operation Conviction are now being viewed as a template for crime control across the country, with other states showing interest in emulating the model.

The government maintains that law and justice are paramount in building a safe society, and initiatives like Operation Conviction are steps in the direction of making Uttar Pradesh not only crime-free but also an exemplary state in rule of law and governance.
