Govt to Ensure Safety of 1,10,000 Girl Students, Academic Quality in 746 KGBVs
Each School to Be Surrounded by an 8-Foot-High, 9-Inch-Thick Boundary Wall
1,01,906 Meters of Barbed Wire Being Installed Above the Boundary Walls
7,230 High-Quality CCTV Cameras to Provide 24×7 Surveillance
Lucknow – The Yogi Government has announced an ambitious Rs 161 crore initiative to ensure the safety and academic excellence of nearly 1,10,000 girl students studying in 746 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) across Uttar Pradesh. The plan includes fortifying each school with a “fortress-like” security system, comprising 8-foot-high, 9-inch-thick boundary walls, topped with 1,01,906 meters of barbed wire, and the installation of 7,230 high-quality CCTV cameras for round-the-clock surveillance.
This robust security system, monitored from a centralized control room in Lucknow, aims to ensure complete accountability and zero negligence among teachers and officials. The CCTV cameras will provide real-time monitoring of classrooms, mid-day meals, playgrounds, and other school activities, ensuring that both safety and academic standards are maintained.
Sandeep Singh, Minister of Basic Education, Uttar Pradesh, emphasized that the initiative would help create a secure environment where girls can confidently pursue their dreams. “Our top priority is that every girl feels fearless, safe, and empowered. Through this ‘fortress-like’ protective shield, we have not only strengthened the boundary walls of KGBVs but also safeguarded the confidence and educational opportunities of these daughters,” Singh said.
The project will also support transparency by monitoring every aspect of the school system, from teaching quality to meal distribution. This surveillance system, operated from the Lucknow control room, will also assist in real-time audits to guarantee the safety and academic integrity of these schools.
The first phase of this security project has already begun and will be fully implemented by the end of the current financial year, ensuring a safer educational environment for the state’s girls.
