Yogi Government to Preserve Maha Kumbh Memories by Establishing ‘Triveni Van’ Across UP

Lucknow — In a green tribute to spirituality and sustainability, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has announced the plantation of ‘Triveni Van’ in all 75 districts of the state to commemorate the Maha Kumbh 2025. The initiative, flagged off by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on World Environment Day (June 5) from Ayodhya, is a symbolic and ecological step to blend faith with conservation.

The move comes under the larger framework of the “Ped Lagao, Ped Bachao Jan Abhiyan 2025,” which aims to plant 35 crore saplings across the state this year. Triveni Van will form an integral part of this ambitious drive, with three sacred trees — Neem, Peepal, and Banyan (Bargad) — being planted together to reflect the spiritual essence of the Triveni tradition.

Spiritual Roots and Ecological Relevance

The concept of ‘Triveni’ holds deep spiritual significance in Indian culture. Just as the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati forms the holy Triveni Sangam, the trio of Neem, Peepal, and Banyan trees is seen as a terrestrial representation of harmony and divinity — echoing the presence of the three supreme deities: Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.

“These three trees are not only sacred but vital to environmental stability. They purify the air, enhance biodiversity, and improve soil fertility,” said Sunil Kumar Choudhary, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of the Forest Department. “The Triveni Van will bring spiritual energy and ecological balance wherever it is planted.”

Plantations Along Riverbanks and Beyond

As a tribute to the grandeur of the Maha Kumbh — one of the largest religious gatherings in the world — the Triveni Vans will be strategically planted along riverbanks across Uttar Pradesh. The aim is to preserve the memory of the event while promoting green cover in environmentally sensitive zones.

During the mega plantation drive in July, each district will establish its own Triveni Van. District-level forest officials have been instructed to ensure not only plantation but also long-term conservation of these sacred groves. The state will also mobilize local communities, school students, and eco-clubs to participate in and adopt these sites for regular care.

Saplings Ready in Record Numbers

In preparation for the campaign, over 52.33 crore saplings have already been raised in nurseries, of which 5.75 crore are medicinal plants. Specifically, 52 lakh Neem, 29 lakh Banyan, and 29 lakh Peepal saplings are ready for Triveni Van plantations.

“This is not just about planting trees — it is about planting faith, memory, and future generations’ hope for a cleaner planet,” said a senior official of the Forest Department.

A Green Legacy for Generations

Triveni Van is expected to become a recurring symbol of Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to sustainability and heritage. With this initiative, the Yogi government is not only addressing climate change and environmental degradation but also reinforcing India’s rich ecological wisdom.

Each grove will serve as a spiritual sanctuary and green lung, creating a legacy that connects the past, nurtures the present, and safeguards the future.
