Lucknow: In a major boost to healthcare services and medical education, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is set to offer around 1,200 government jobs in 2026 across state-run medical colleges. The large-scale recruitment drive aims to strengthen teaching capacity, improve research output, and enhance the overall quality of medical education in the state.
As per official plans, 1,112 posts of Assistant Professors will be filled in government medical colleges next year. In addition, recruitment will be carried out for 44 posts of Professors and 11 posts of Pharmacy Lecturers, taking the total number of teaching and technical positions to nearly 1,200. This initiative is expected to provide significant employment opportunities to qualified youth while reinforcing the state’s rapidly expanding medical education infrastructure.

Alongside faculty recruitment, the Yogi government will also distribute appointment letters to 1,230 Nursing Officers (male and female) selected through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), Prayagraj, further strengthening healthcare delivery in government hospitals and medical colleges.
Recruitment Process to Begin Soon
Additional Chief Secretary for Health and Medical Education Amit Kumar Ghosh said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued clear instructions to fill vacant posts across departments to ensure maximum employment generation for the youth. Acting on these directions, the Medical Education Department has sent requisitions to UPPSC, Prayagraj, for the recruitment of Assistant Professors, Professors, and Pharmacy Lecturers. Advertisements for these posts are expected to be released shortly.
He added that strengthening the nursing cadre is also a key priority of the government. The appointment of 1,230 nursing officers will significantly improve manpower availability in government healthcare institutions.

Boost to Research and Quality Education
The recruitment drive is expected to give a strong push to research activities, academic mentoring, and practical training in government medical colleges. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly emphasized that medical education in Uttar Pradesh should not be limited to awarding degrees alone, but must be closely linked with quality, research, and hands-on clinical exposure.
Over the past nearly nine years, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed historic growth in the number of medical colleges, expanding access to medical education to almost every district. Ensuring the availability of qualified faculty and trained staff for these institutions has become a top government priority.
With the appointment of Assistant Professors, Professors, and Pharmacy Lecturers, students will receive better academic guidance, research opportunities will expand, and medical education standards will align more closely with national benchmarks. In the long run, this initiative is expected to produce a stronger pool of skilled doctors, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals, ultimately benefiting the general public through improved medical services across the state.
