Lucknow/Ayodhya – In a new gift to devotees visiting Shri Ram’s birthplace in Ayodhya, the Yogi Adityanath-led government is all set to construct another grand pathway — the ‘Bharat Path’, connecting the sacred Bharatkund to Ayodhya.
This latest development follows the successful construction of Ram Path, Bhakti Path, and Janmabhoomi Path, all aimed at enhancing the pilgrim experience in the temple city.
Bharat Path: A Spiritual and Cultural Link
The proposed Bharat Path will connect Bharatkund, the sacred site where Lord Ram’s younger brother Bharat is believed to have performed penance for 14 years during Ram’s exile, to the city of Ayodhya.
The 20-kilometre-long route, with an estimated cost of ₹900 crore, will significantly improve accessibility for pilgrims. The Public Works Department (PWD) has already submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to its headquarters, awaiting final approval to commence construction.
A Boost to Ayodhya’s Global Image
With the inauguration of the Ram Mandir, Ayodhya has witnessed an exponential rise in the number of visitors from across the country and the world. The construction of Bharat Path is expected to further strengthen Ayodhya’s identity as a global religious and cultural hub.
“Once approved, the construction work will begin immediately,” said S.P. Bharti, Executive Engineer of the PWD’s provincial division. He also confirmed that the route would be equipped with modern lighting systems to enhance safety and visibility, especially during evening hours.
Historical Significance of Bharatkund
Bharatkund holds a special place in the Ramayana. It is believed that Lord Bharat, deeply grieved by Ram’s exile, chose this location to perform intense penance for 14 years and awaited Ram’s return. It is also where he is said to have performed the last rites of their father, King Dasharatha.
A mythological pond at Bharatkund continues to attract a large number of pilgrims, especially those arriving from Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Prayagraj. The construction of Bharat Path is expected to significantly ease their journey and enhance the spiritual experience.
Expanding Religious Infrastructure
The Yogi government has been rapidly transforming Ayodhya into a world-class destination for religious tourism. Alongside the Bharat Path, widening of the Panchkosi and Chaudahkosi Parikrama Marg is underway to accommodate the increasing footfall.
The state government is also working on upgrading road connectivity and other infrastructural facilities to ensure seamless movement and an enriched experience for devotees and tourists alike.
With the introduction of Bharat Path, the Yogi government is not only preserving and promoting the sacred heritage of the Ramayana, but also ensuring that Ayodhya becomes a beacon of spiritual and cultural resurgence. The move reinforces the city’s growing importance in India’s religious tourism landscape.
